Stonyhurst 2XV 37 v Clitheroe 21
Our Sixth Form rugby team travelled to Stonyhurst College on Wednesday 13th February, following a comfortable victory against their 3rd XV before Christmas; they knew this would be a much more difficult challenge.
It proved to be so, as Stonyhurst ran in three tries in the first fifteen minutes. Clitheroe regrouped and scored a try of their own through an opportunist effort from scrum half Lucas Wright. Clitheroe now had a foothold in the match and remained competitive until half time.
The second half was much closer, with Stonyhurst sending on some of their talented Year 11 students, but what they lacked in physicality, they made up for in speed and they added three further tries through slick handling. Clitheroe, again rallied and added three further tries of their own, from Patrick Enion, Jack Stanley and Alex Bury. Special mentions go to Caleb Brown and Solomon Parker who carried and tackled ferociously throughout the match. Gil Stanton also played outstandingly as Clitheroe’s only year 11 student in the side.
It was an excellent test for the fledgling Clitheroe team, who will be equally tested when they travel to Bolton School on 13th March.
