On Monday 2nd July we held our Summer Concert. For this, we were joined by students from our international music partner school, Gymnasium Waldstrasse (Hattingen, Germany). The concert featured soloists and student groups as well as all 14 school ensembles. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was wonderful to see students cheering each other on. Every performance was of a very high standard and the number of students involved was amazing – well over 100 students were involved in the concert! We celebrated the achievements of all our students and in particular thanked the departing Year 11 and Year 13 students for their hard work and enthusiasm during their time at CRGS. We also celebrated the work of two departing members of staff.
Mrs Prince has been teaching singing at CRGS for 18 years and her dedication and enthusiasm will be sorely missed. For the Summer Concert, Mrs Prince worked with singers and instrumentalists on two very special musical works. The first, ‘Gruss’ by Mendelssohn, opened the concert and welcomed our exchange students (in German). The second, ‘Take These Wings’, wished everyone well for the future and incorporated flutes and piano as well as singers.
Dr Allcock, Director of Music, is also leaving at the end of term. During his time at CRGS he has significantly expanded the department. The number of weekly instrument lessons has increased as has the number of ensembles in school. Exam classes have grown in size and A Level Music has been re-introduced.
We extend our thanks and best wishes to both members of the Music Department.
