Year 12 students visited a UCAS Discovery Day in Manchester on Tuesday 3rd March. This gave them the opportunity to speak face-to-face with a wide range of universities, employers, and apprenticeship providers. The day was an excellent event with students speaking very positively about the range of organisations present and the opportunity to speak to Higher Education students, advisers and also employers and employees about the opportunities available to them.
This was followed by our annual Year 12 Careers Morning on Wednesday 4th March. The event saw us welcome a diverse range of speakers to talk about a variety of careers. Students attended two talks of their choosing and our speakers included both recent and more mature CRGS alumni as well as parents, and local and national employers.
The talks inspired our students who gained valuable knowledge about career routes and options, entry requirements, the nature of different roles and progression routes as well as key advice including reflections such as ‘What I wish I’d known when I was your age.’
The talks ranged from Careers in Architecture, Careers in the NHS, Engineering Consultancy, Banking, Insurance and Finance and Legal careers.
Our photograph shows Andrew Keavey, from East Lancs NHS Trust speaking with students about Careers in the NHS.
The next photograph shows CRGS alumnus Rani Govender (Class of 2015) talking about her work as Associate Head of Policy & Public Affairs – Child Safety Online – at NSPCC.
Our final photograph shows Ellie Bibby (Class of 2018). Until very recently, Ellie was an Engineering Consultant at Jacobs and is now pursuing a PhD at Manchester University. She is pictured with her former colleague, Anna Sanders, a Carbon Consultant at Jacobs. They delivered two talks: One on the different routes in Engineering and one on Net Zero and the Carbon Neutral Transition.
We would very much like to thank all our guest speakers for giving up their time to inspire our students and open their eyes to the wide range of careers that they could consider. It was a thoroughly enjoyable, enlightening, and informative occasion which will help our students towards making more informed decisions about their future plans.
