Welcome to the Main School area of our school website. We hope this section will give you a taste of what it is like to be a student here at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Main School and answer some of the questions you may have about day-to-day matters and student life.
The Main School is based at our site on Chatburn Road and students attend here from Year 7 to 11. We currently have 750 students at the Main School.
Our students join a form in Year 7 and stay as a member of that group throughout their time at Main School. All students are members of one of the following houses:
C – Curie
R – Roosevelt
G – Galileo
S – Socrates
T – Turing
They join in with a wide range of house activities, with students from the same house, in different years.
We are a very caring and nurturing school and our strong pastoral system is designed to provide all the guidance and support students need to enable them to fulfil their potential.
We have high expectations of all Main School students in terms of their behaviour, attendance and attitude to learning. As a result, Main School has a calm, purposeful and supportive atmosphere. We make our expectations very clear to all students and these are re-visited regularly during the year. Students are proud to be members of the CRGS community and, as a result, are happy to meet these standards of presentation and conduct. Our code of conduct is called The CRGS Way.
To ensure our students achieve their potential we regularly track and monitor progress. Students will be assessed both formally and informally throughout the school year and we maintain regular communication with parents / carers about progress and attainment. Parents / carers receive regular interim updates about their son’s / daughter’s progress and a formal report annually.
We firmly believe that as a school it is our responsibility to develop the whole student. As a result, our enrichment and extra-curricular programme is extensive and diverse. Main School students have access to a wide range of opportunities within and beyond school, in the community and internationally.
In addition, to prepare for life beyond school, we offer a range of student leadership opportunities here at Main School. Students can participate in School Council, act as House representative or take on an individual role of responsibility such as that of Teaching and Learning Ambassador, Prefect or Peer Mentor. As well as providing an excellent opportunity for students to have a voice in the development of Main School, these roles equip our students with valuable experience and skills to help them prepare for leadership roles beyond school.
We hope this brief summary has given you a flavour of the wealth of opportunities which help make CRGS Main School such a vibrant, supportive and challenging learning environment. If you have any further questions or would like to arrange a visit to Main School, please contact us.
