What is the fourth word used in all the Harry Potter titles?
What word ending with X is a type of book?
Questions we had practised at school reverberated around my head as we made our way to an exciting event called the Kids’ Lit Quiz, an annual competition, aimed at students aged between 10-13. Quizzes are held all over the world and I felt privileged to have the opportunity to take part. As we arrived at Pendle Vale School we could feel the tension mounting. The atmosphere was terrific and we were served with a flavoursome tea before entering the huge hall. We sat in our Year 7 team of four – with the CRGS Year 8 team not far away – in the heart of the quiz, between schools from all over the region.
Wayne Mills who founded the quiz was our quizmaster. We had to answer approximately 100 questions with varying degrees of difficulty on several topics eg portals, birds, fantasy, orphans, animal rights and many more. At the end of each round, our answer sheets were gathered in and marked. Whilst the teams were awaiting the appraisal, chances to answer on the spot questions and win money took place. I won £2 by guessing the book title when the quizmaster read out a passage from a book. The audience could also take part. Members of the team with the highest score from each round won a book. It was a challenging and fun-filled afternoon for anyone who loves to read. I really enjoyed the event even though we didn’t win. Overall, the Kids’ Lit Quiz was a rewarding and fulfilling event and I had an amazing time. I’m sure my teammates did too!
