The CRGS Equestrian Squad is an extra-curricular club created by students and, with help from the teachers, we have joined the National School Equestrian Association (NSEA) to compete in the prestigious inter-school competitions. On 3rd April we represented the school in our first show jumping competition at Northcote Stud. The competition included different ages and horse abilities in teams of four or as an individual against schools from Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. The day consisted of many beaming smiles, high-fives, hugs for ponies (and humans) and even some rosettes too!
Class 2 (75cm jumps) saw the first team through to 3rd place. The members of the team were Hannah Bettess (Year 8), Lizzie Warburton (Year 8), Vanessa Lace (Year 9) and me. Our ponies’ names are Owenbovy Eamon, Murphy, Milo and Mr Dave. Just by coincidence, we all had grey ponies! Vanessa had an impressive clear round (I did too!) and speed from Lizzie and Hannah contributed to the great result! We were all very pleased with the ponies and they received lots of mints afterwards!
The next team was Ellie Whittle (Year 13), Charlotte Mellin (Year 8), Hannah Bettess (Year 8) and Georgia Culver (Year 12) riding Buddy, Mr Tom, Alfie Moon and Owenbovy Eamon. It was a tough class but with three clear rounds and fast times the team pulled through and took 3rd place too! Everyone looked very smart in their matching hat covers and cream jodhpurs and we felt very proud of to be representing our school.
Overall it was a very successful and exciting day and the teams will continue to compete in more events.
