On Wednesday 29th March 2017 we hosted our annual Oxbridge Conference and invited colleagues and students from Thomas Whitham Sixth Form in Burnley to join us for the event.
The programme involved Ms Orock Nsoatabe from The Queen’s College Oxford speaking about the Oxbridge application process and CRGS Year 13 students being interviewed to demonstrate the rigours of an Oxbridge interview to the audience. Two contrasting Medical interviews and a Classics interview were undertaken. These were unscripted and, therefore, authentic.
Year 13 students also spoke about their experiences of applying to Oxbridge and being interviewed and gave details of the additional tests that are required.
CRGS Alumni also returned to assist and the Year 12 students were fascinated to hear from Noah Froud (Human, Social, and Political Sciences, Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge) and Esther Rollinson (History, Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford) as they spoke about their experiences studying at these prestigious universities. Noah and Esther are both nearing the end of their second years at university and gave insightful advice on preparation for interview, background reading and personal statements and answered a wide range of thoughful questions.
Visits to both Oxford and Cambridge universities will be taking place in late June / early July to allow students to experience open days. They will stay overnight in a college and attend sessions relevant to the subjects they are interested in studying. Thomas Whitham students will also be participating in the visits with us.
We hope that the conference has encouraged students to consider applying to Oxford or Cambridge and we wish them every success in due course.
Thank you to everyone involved, including Mrs Dickinson and Mrs Howard for the organisation behind the scenes.
