Students from our Sixth Form recently took part in the British Biology Olympiad – a multi-national competition designed to challenge students’ knowledge beyond the standard A Level curriculum and encourage interest in studying Biology in further education.
The competition took the form of a two-hour test, covering complex biological content that was both on and off syllabus – encouraging independent study. Whilst it was challenging, it was both a useful and enjoyable experience which enabled us to stretch our scientific understanding further than we thought possible.
This year has been the best yet for us, with the highest number of students achieving Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards since first taking part in the competition. I am sure that future Biology students will repeat, or improve on, this year’s success next year.
