After participating in Lessons From Auschwitz whilst in Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Sixth Form in 2015, I progressed onto becoming the Regional Ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust in the North West. Since the project, I have worked hard in spreading knowledge and awareness of the Holocaust, organising a conference at my local library and an international penpal project with the help of other ambassadors. At the moment I am organising a commemoration event in Lancaster for Holocaust Memorial Day, on 27th January 2017.
As part of my role, I was able to visit the International School of Holocaust Studies, Yad Vashem, Israel. We heard from leading experts in the field, engaging in ten days of intensive study. We were given time during the trip to explore landmark sites in the country, such as the Old Cities in Jerusalem and Masada. We were also given the opportunity to explore Jewish culture and tradition.
Along with this visit, I attended two Regional Ambassador Days in London, designed to enhance my understanding of the Holocaust when I was fortunate to hear from survivor Rudi Oppenheimer.
So far my time with the Trust has been fantastic and I hope to continue working hard with them for the rest of my three-year term, to see that the Holocaust is never forgotten.
