Our annual Commemoration Day service took place on Wednesday 22nd June 2016. The event commemorates the foundation of our school some 462 years ago, by Her Majesty Queen Mary. On the day, we were very fortunate that the rain managed to hold off, allowing staff and Main School students to walk to the Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene from Main School and to process along Church Street and York Street after the service.
The Rt Reverend Philip North, Bishop of Burnley, was our Guest Preacher and he delivered a captivating sermon, which emphasised the importance of ‘service over self’.
The service also involved readings from the Head Boy and Girl from the Sixth Form, including ‘Words of Hope’ and some impressive performances by the CRGS Singers, the Senior Brass Ensemble and Mary Peachey, from Year 12, on Clarinet.
Our photograph shows Mr Gerald Hood (Headmaster, 1956-1983) with a group of Main School and Sixth Form students at a buffet lunch after the event.
