Year 13 student, Juliet Taylor, won first prize in the 14-18 category of the photo competition organised by the Geographical Association’s Physical Geography Special Interest Group. This year’s competition, on the theme of ‘Earth Sculpture’, saw 150 students take up the challenge of photographing interestingly shaped features or landscapes that have been fashioned by physical geography processes.
Juliet’s photograph was taken on the summer 2015 Geography French Alps visit. It was entitled ‘Glacial Erosion’ and showed the view from Glacier Blanc in the Hautes-Alpes. The photograph graces the front of the GA spring 2016 magazine and Juliet will receive a Páramo jacket and a certificate at the GA Awards ceremony in April 2016 to be held at Manchester University. Juliet is currently working on an Extended Project Qualification looking at the fracking debate in Lancashire and plans to study Geology with Geography or Environmental Science at university.
